Louise Hall: Sulphur requirements in IMO emission control areas 26 February, 2015 Members operating ships over 400GT, trading in designated emission control areas (ECAs), including yachts, may already be aware of the emission limits introduced designed to reduce the sulphur oxide and nitrogen oxide emissions of ocean-going vessels. These areas, shown in the map extract and as noted above, were the Bohai-Sea ECA, the Yangzte River Delta ECA and the Pearl River Delta ECA.
